I've met guys who liked me for my brain,
I provided them with answers to solutions and I was a thinker.
I've also met guys who hated me for my ethnicity,
The idea that I would hurt them with voodoo.
I've met guys who liked me for my mannerism,
Reserved, calm, straightforward, protective.
But I've also met guys who hated me for my beliefs,
Obedient and God- fearing.
Then came a guy who took those likes and dislikes
and turned them into something I can't describe.
He loves my brain because it provided clarity
He loves my ethnicity because it is part of who I am
He loves my mannerism because it is part of me
And he loves my beliefs because it is part of me!
I didn't have to look for him,
He found me where I was.
Out of the darkness, he pulled me up
Out with the old, birthed out the new.
He turned my Lies into Lessons,
He made my mistakes, a stepping stone to greatness.
While I was busy searching for those things elsewhere,
rejecting him,
He kept on Loving me boldly,
Holding my hands,
Wiping off my tears,
Healing my scars.
Step by step he whispered
Did I ask why?
Why me?
Why do you love me?
Why do you care for me?
Why do you stay when all I do is push you away?
His words were;
You are mine!
Mine to love!
Mine to hold!
Mine to cherish!
Mine to protect!!
Never have I met a man
Who cares for me so deeply
Who is proud to call me his own.
The man who gave it all up just for me
The man who would do it again just to save me.
The one who forgives me over and over
The one who erases my past and guides my future.
The Lord God my Savior,
My protector,
My defender,
My shield,
My peace.
The Best Man!
