If Life Had a Voice

If life had a voice
Would it speak?
Would it say our names?
Would our existence have meaning or even purpose?
Would it continue to be selfish, bias and cunning?
If life had a voice
Would it call us out?
Out of our messes!
Band-aid our hurts!
Free us from bondage and the thoughts that keep our minds captive!
Thoughts that block out silence,
Sorrows that prevent joy!
If life had a voice
Would it warn us of misery?
Of deaths that sting!
Would the rich get richer and the poor poorer?
Would the broken remain broken or become whole?
Would it remind us of things forgotten?
If life had a voice
Would politicians still be corrupt?
Where the system sets us up to fail!
Where judgment is done by us humans and not God!
Where the weak continue to be the prey!
Where color creates segregation,
and violence the new norm!
If life had a voice
would it sing of rebirth
Where every son and daughter know their worth!
Would there be a song of freedom and justice?
Of unity and peace,
that no matter what comes and goes
living would be meaningful?
If life had a voice
Would it resemble a sweet melody?
Where the songs that were left unsung
Ring bells in our hearts!
Would it reach out for hands unseen?
Reminding us of what’s important!
Would it show us the way?
Save us from who we use to be
In moments no one sees!
If life had a voice
Would it give us something new?
Strength for today,
Hope for tomorrow.
Would it give a covenant unbroken?
While the future is still unfolding!
If life had a voice
Would it speak?
