Well, it was my first thanksgiving in the US and I must say it was a pretty good one! I have also noted a few things a long the way. 1. Americans love turkey and to host events, 2. I came to also wonder if it was the only time that they actually gave thanks and gratitude for the things they do give thanks for on that day. 3. I also learnt about the origin of thanksgiving and how it came to be. I mean, y'all know me I could go on and on and list them all but what I can really say is that it actually is not a bad concept.
However, I felt sad for those who had to work on that day and didn't get to spend it with family, and for those who didn't have any or was mourning someone. For those who did not get invitations and those who felt left out. I always think that it is a beautiful thing to take time apart and give thanks to God for everything that He has done in our lives, and while I also think that it should not be just one day a year, I still appreciate the moments of thanksgiving that I saw today.
It felt good watching everyone be thankful for their family, for friends, for babies on the way, new promises, for life and so many other things. It was a time of reflection for the things we sometimes take for granted!
From my Instagram feed, I loved seeing how most families came together and shared those moments. My wish is that it continues, not just on that day but everyday and with every chance that is granted. It is good to give thanks always, even for just waking up and breathing in a new day!
Today and like every other day, I am Thankful for the air that I breathe, the family that I have, my organs and body working properly, for being able to get an education and be free, and ....... I am just thankful for everything!
May we continue to be thankful for everything in our lives, both the good and the bad! To those who felt like they had nothing to be thankful for today, I pray that God shows you how important and how loved you are and how everything around you is something to be thankful for.
Love always
SJ
